How to record calls from General IP Phone

MiaRec can be used to record calls from any Voip Phone, which works with one of following protocols: SIP, H.323, Cisco Skinny (SCCP) or MGCP.

Also, MiaRec can record calls in other proprietary protocols, if an audio is transmitted inside RTP packets. In latter case information about caller/callee phone numbers may be unavailable.

This guide contains information about how to use MiaRec for recording calls on Voip Phone.


Record calls on single Voip Phone device

You need:

  • HUB (see What is a HUB?)
  • Computer with Windows 2000, 2003, XP or Vista
  • MiaRec Solo license

Below network diagram shows how all devices should be connected:

Network scheme: MiaRec, IP Phone and HUB

Voip Phone on this diagram is shown as the Voip Phone.

A HUB should be placed between Voip Adapter and Router.

Computer with MiaRec should be connected to the same HUB.


Such network scheme will allow you to record calls on Voip Phone.

Record calls on multiple Voip Phone devices simultaneously

You need:

  • Switch with Port Mirroring function (see What is Port Mirroring?)
  • Server with Windows 2000, 2003, XP or Vista
  • MiaRec Business license for appropriate number of lines

Below network diagram shows how all devices should be connected:

MiaRec Business, Voip Phones and Switch

Such network scheme will allow you to record multiple calls simultaneously.


Please, note, Port Mirroring function should be configured appropriately on the switch.
